Archaeology in Times of War
Where history’s battlefields meet archaeology’s discoveries
Conceived and implemented by Polyptychon, the traveling exhibition “Archaeology in Times of War in Kilkis: From the Trenches of Battle to the Trenches of Excavation” was created to mark 100 years since the end of World War I. It presents the paradoxical story of archaeological research unfolding in landscapes once marked by violent conflict. Its multisensory approach combined authentic museum objects with digital exhibits and sound, creating an immersive exhibition experience. At Polyptychon, we advocate the importance of traveling exhibitions as a form of soft diplomacy—a way to bring places, ideas, and histories into dialogue with diverse audiences, fostering understanding and connection beyond borders.
