The Polycentric Museum of Aigai
A conceptual gate to the capital of the Macedonian kingdom
This newly-built landmark museum in northern Greece offers an innovative, holistic approach to the relationship between archaeological site, museum and visitor, sitting between the classical archaeological museum and installation art. The central museum building functions as a conceptual gateway to the archaeological site, to the history and culture of the Macedonians, and to the wider Hellenistic world.
Polyptychon’s contribution was multi-faceted: we designed and authored a guided-tour app with AR capabilities; produced a suite of exhibition videos; carried out the signage study and design; and developed environmental graphics and interpretive materials that shape the visitor experience.

Our brief was to support a museum strong in concept with a blend of physical and digital applications that amplify its content in a considered way: subtle, non-intrusive and meaningful rather than spectacular.
The result is an experience that guides visitors gently into the past while creating clear, contemporary touchpoints for learning and reflection.
