Motion sensing application in museums

October 12, 2017

Using motion sensing devices in museums has proven a great method to attract visitors and offer a new way of presenting cultural heritage. The Byzantine Museum of Kastoria accepted our proposal to design, develop and install a kinect application which presents the extraordinary byzantine and post-byzantine monuments of the city within the grasp of our hands. The user -just by moving his hands accordingly- is able to watch the monuments on a map, select the ones he wants to have a deeper look at, magnify the images and immerse into their artistic treasures. As most of the monuments are not accessible to the public, this application is a digital door to frescoes and icons that otherwise would not be available to see.
