Culture, art, history and archaeology is often unconsciously more relevant to modern life than people realise. Cultural heritage is present in so many ways that it becomes central part of our everyday life.

A new publication "Byzantium in the World. Artistic, Cultural & Ideological Legacy from the 19th to the 21st century” by archaeologist Stamatios Chondrogiannis illuminates Byzantium’s distinct legacy in art, cultural ideology and political thinking of the last two centuries. Through a charming and often unexpected journey in humanities, arcjitecture, decoration, fine arts, cinema, museums, fashion, design, exhibitions and their intrinsic political meanings, this book documents Byzantium’s versatile influence in the culture and thinking of the modern world.

With references to the revival of Byzantium in Europe from the second half of the 19th century to its reception after the World War II, and from modern architecture to iconic fashion designer that are inspired from its legacy, this book is a manifestation of how cultural heritage and specifically Byzantium still manage to stimulate our lifes and aesthetic perception.
